Dr. Tishkoff’s ADA-funded research aims to understand why African-Americans have relatively higher risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. She is exploring whether adaptive DNA mutations that protected against infectious disease in the African environment may actually increase risk for diabetes in a Western environment. Her findings may ultimately lead to better diagnostics and therapeutics for diabetes in ethnically diverse populations.Link to original article
